Biopsy With oral cancer on the rise, our office provides comprehensive oral cancer screenings at the initial exam as well as at each hygiene visit. If any legion, swelling, tumor, or tissues change appears suspicious, we may suggest a biopsy. Done with lasers, tissue samples are sent to pathology labs to determine what these suspicious areas are. Oral cancer is best treated if discovered early. Digital photos are also taken to help the scientists who read the samples with the scan electron-microscopes see the area of the mouth where the biopsy was taken. We also do brush biopsies (Oral CDx) where we send cells scraped with a sterile brush for some biopsies. The doctor will personally call you, our patient, when the biopsy report comes in. We know our patients and families want to know the biopsy results right away. Appropriate follow-up care is always a top priority in our office. Sometimes, innocent color changes, small tissues tags, or pigmented legions can be hard to see.
