Lasers
Our office is proud to boast of having the most lasers in
San Diego County to best treat any patient. A laser is an
instrument that produces a very narrow, intense beam of light
energy which may or may not be visible to the human eye. When
laser light comes in contact with tissue, it causes a
reaction. The beam of light produced by the laser has the
ability to remove, vaporize, or shape soft tissues (gums,
cheeks, and tongue) or hard tissues (removal of decay).
Both our doctors and hygienists have been specially trained
in laser dental care.
Dr. Weiner is especially knowledgeable,
as he trains other doctors in how to do laser dentistry. He
has authored numerous scientific articles and lectured
extensively at various dental meetings. He is considered one
of America's finest experts in the field of Lasers in
Dentistry.
Lasers can be used to reverse gum damage and regenerate
lost support, doing so in the most comfortable manner
possible. In many cases, patients who thought their only
option was painful gum surgery have been amazed by laser
assisted surgical gum treatments.
Lasers can also be used
to remove decay in a comfortable, minimally invasive way.
Special lasers are used often without numbing or using
anesthesia to do a filling. This is a big hit with the kids,
as well as the adult patients who are fearful or experience
"dread" of the dental drill. As it is very comfortable and
quick, you will be very pleased with the laser when it is used
to treat your cavities.
Some of the advantages to using the laser to do fillings
are complete comfort and the fact that it can do things with
far more preicision than the dental drill. There is also no
noise or vibration like that which is normally associated with
a drill. There is less tooth removal, seeing as the lasers are calibrated to remove decay.
Lasers are also used in an office to modify gums and other
soft tissue. Many times we can reverse recession of the gums
and painlessly improve smiles with the newer, more advanced
"Gum Lift". Procedures made popular by TV Shows like "Extreme
Makeover, The Swan, and Nip & Tuck". Gummy Smiles can be
treated painlessly and the improvements to your appearance are
amazing.
Lasers are also used during orthodontic (braces) treatment
to control gum swelling and improve the shape of the gums
following braces. Sometimes, over the months and years of
wearing braces, gums become unattractively thick, bulbous, and
poorly shaped. Gum contouring with lasers are a popular way to
reverse this and provide our patients with beautiful smiles.
It has been said that the smile is like a painting. The teeth
are the painting, the gums are the frame. Take a look at some
of your favorite actors or actresses in the magazines and
notice how perfect the gums frame their beautiful smiles. With
lasers, you too can have this kind of beautiful smile.

Sometimes we "sculpt" or "recontour"
the gums prior to whitening so the smile is more
glamorous for a better display of teeth. Gums are the
frame and the teeth are the picture. Does not the frame
of the picture greatly affect the overall

Laser Therapy

An exciting non-surgical use of laser light
enhances many regenerative dental procedures and heeling.
Special laser hand-pieces provide the finishing touches to
both conventional and laser dentistry.
Set at about 450 mw, this form of laser treatment when
shined on recently treated areas of the mouth produces the
amazing phenomenon of “Biostimulation”; that increases blood
flow (critical in healing), reduces swelling and inflammation,
greatly reduces pain receptors, and increases cellular healing
through increased production and “good” enzymes and cellular
rejuvenation.
Our office has been amazed (as have the plastic surgeons,
oral surgeons, neurologists, and orthopedic surgeons) at the
rapid healing and reduced bruising and swelling when low-level
laser therapy is used. Root canal treatment, gum treatment,
oral surgery, TMJ Treatments, and routine crowns and fillings
are much more comfortable when exposed to the Bio-stimulatory
laser light.
Used for many years in Europe and Scandinavia,
Biostimulation is finally making its way to the United States.
Just as stem cell research is uncovering the bodies ability to
direct cell formation and treat so many terrible degenerative
diseases.
Low lever laser therapy can also stimulate cells to
regenerate bone faster, integrate dental implants more
reliably, and reduce pain from root canal work and
extractions.
Our doctors are very excited to bring this exciting
modality to our patients. The best news of all is that we use
Biostimulation routinely for better, more comfortable results
in our dental care at no additional fee. Bing on the cutting
edge of technology and the latest dental advances is a benefit
our patients enjoy. Our office is proud to offer this exciting
use of laser energy.
